Bookkeeping Advisor
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Bookkeeper to assist with the financial management and ongoing accounting services offered to clients at MPK Advisors & CPAs. We serve a range of industries, with specialty in the not-for-profit sector. The job would require recording all financial transactions, including cash payments and receipts, into the correct general ledger accounts and verifying their accuracy; maintaining clean and reconciled accounts monthly; recording payroll transactions, and generating regular financial reports for clients to review. The ideal candidate for this position will have worked as a professional Bookkeeper for a minimum of one year.
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conduct reconciliation of all accounts as needed (bank, credit card, loans, etc.)
- Maintain clients’ general ledger accounts in an accurate, complete, and up-to-date manner
- Perform all activities related to the accounts payable function including reviewing, coding, and processing payments as needed
- Perform account receivable functions including invoicing, deposits, collections, and revenue recognition
- Prepare financial reports through collection, analysis, and summarization of data
- Interpret and apply accounting policies, rules, and regulations to all work to ensure compliance with applicable standards
- Observes and adheres to all job safety rules
- Performs other duties that improve the efficiency of the above processes and procedures
- Performs other related duties as assigned by the President
Education/Certification/License Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (Preferred)
- QuickBooks Online Certified (Preferred)
Work Experience/Qualifications:
- 1-3 years relevant experience working in accounting and bookkeeping
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Proficient skills in Intuit QuickBooks and Microsoft Excel
- Experience with bank reconciliations, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger, including journal entries
- High degree of accuracy and attention to detail
- Able to multi-task, prioritize, work under pressure, and meet deadlines
- Willingness to travel locally as needed for client on-site meetings and bookkeeping

Senior Tax & Accounting Advisor
MPK Advisors & CPAs is seeking an experienced tax & accounting advisor to start immediately with our team. Our distinctive approach to public accounting includes a strategic and proactive approach with our clients, bring unsurpassed value by delivering timely, relevant advice to assist in critical financial decisions.
This position will ensure our clients’ compliance with state and federal tax law through accurate and timely reporting and return filings, as well as ensure strategic application of tax law to reduce tax liability. They will monitor current and impending changes to tax regulation and make the appropriate updates to policies and strategies. They will also help to oversee our accounting department, ensuring proper accounting records and financial reporting for businesses and nonprofits. Our firm takes a unique approach to tax compliance in that we emphasize proactive tax savings strategies for all entity types, with consideration of our clients’ vision, mission, and purpose.
FLSA Status: Exempt / Full Time
Key Outcomes: (performance):
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Facilitate and manage the preparation and review of federal and various state tax returns and the accurate, timely filing of all tax forms.
- Prepare and review individual, corporate, partnership, and tax-exempt organization returns.
- Find and implement opportunities for process improvement in company tax and accounting procedures.
- Develop and implement strategic tax planning for all necessary federal and state tax returns.
- Manage members of the tax team as they prepare components of the federal and various state individual and business income tax returns and other tax documents.
- Manage members of the accounting team as they complete the monthly accounting records for business and nonprofit clients. Review bank reconciliations and classifications of transactions. Prepare monthly financial reports for clients, including key metrics for their businesses.
- Manage client relationships in the areas of tax and accounting.
- Plan for and develop overall return calendar and coordinate timing and inputs with tax team.
- Maintain effective control procedures over all aspects of the tax and accounting processes.
- Manage and facilitate IRS income tax audits: preparing responses, creating schedules, etc.
- Monitor legislative and regulatory tax law developments, communicate the effects of these developments to management and the tax team and create strategies to capitalize on changes to taxation legislation.
- Provide support with various internal audits and special tax and accounting-related projects.
- Review tax returns and quarterly/yearly tax projections. Review accounting records monthly and help to facilitate annual closing for accounting clients, preparing the records for tax return reporting and / or audit.
- Manage and mentor members of tax team to greater levels of effectiveness and engagement.
Education/Certification/License Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting (minimum)
- Preferred candidates have a current EA or CPA license, or have started the licensing process. A master’s degree in an accounting discipline is also preferred.
Work Experience/Qualifications:
- 3+ years of experience (minimum), 5+ years (preferred) in tax and accounting work, or in a public accountant role. Supervisory and management experience is required.
- Extensive individual/corporate/partnership tax knowledge. Preferred to also have nonprofit tax knowledge.
- Strong knowledge of tax code, compliance and procedures for business.
- Understanding of U.S. federal, state, and local reporting requirements.
- Strong experience with a variety of tax operations and ability to drive process improvements.
- Strong ability to utilize project management and accounting best practices to organize and prioritize tasks and the
tasks of other tax team members. - Ability to work well independently as well as the ability to work well with stakeholders and communicate the benefits of tax initiatives.
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
Technologies:
- Experience with Intuit Lacerte tax and QuickBooks accounting software is preferred.

- Strong accounting, analytical, and research skills.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Cultivates networks and fosters excellent customer service.
- Maintain confidentiality of client information and uphold IRS standards and conduct.
